Feast Forward, Saturday April 29

On Saturday, April 29th, Dinner at DebS is hosting a dinner party to benefit Forward Theater Company as part of their Feast Forward fundraising event, and we hope you’ll join us!

In the spirit of their “Around the World” theme, we’re offering a World Tour in Food, and you can travel around the world and back home again by partaking from a buffet of appetizers featuring similar ingredients prepared and sourced from around the globe – and our own backyards! There’ll be treats like:

  • Bacon-wrapped Texas BBQ shrimp;
  • Vietnamese shrimp spring rolls Chicken satay and tofu satay, with roasted red pepper and peanut dipping sauces;
  • very British potted shrimp;
  • Smoked Salmon from the Pacific Northwest;
  • Black bean & corn salsa with chips, inspired in California by way of Wisconsin and the Southwest;
  • cheeses, cured meats, breads, & crackers from France, Wisconsin, Norway, and California;
  • nuts, olives, and other crunchy & savory handfuls.

Following the 6:00 pm dinner at DebS, we’ll gather at Overture Center with the hundreds of others who have been enjoying dinners all over the city for dessert, a silent auction, and an original Vaudeville show highlighting the sweetness of coming home.

The suggested donation to Forward Theater Company for all this fun is $50 – $150 per person, but donations of any amount are more than welcome.

Forward Theater Company is Madison’s professional theater company in residence at Overture Center. They perform the best of modern theater that includes regional premieres, shows straight from Broadway, and other intellectually and emotionally engaging works that Madison audiences wouldn’t otherwise have an opportunity to see. Dinner at DebS is once again participating in this Fun Fundraiser – Save the date!

On Saturday, April 29th, Dinner at DebS is hosting a dinner party to benefit Forward Theater Company as part of their Feast Forward fundraising event, and we hope you’ll join us!

In the spirit of their “Around the World” theme, we’re going to explore small plates with different national origins, paired with fine wines.

We’ll be sending out invitations with a link to donate to Forward Theater Company online or by mail (suggested $50 – $150 per person) soon. You can RSVP now and donate later by filling out this form. Funds raised will go towards the company’s outstanding artistic and outreach programming.

Winter Holiday Dessert Buffet

You’re invited to Dinner at DebS for an indulgent Dessert Buffet

Sunday February 19th, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM

Strategically located after Valentine’s Day and just before Presidents’ Day and Mardi Gras, we’ll be serving up an assortment of sweet treats representing many of the cold season holidays, such as salted chocolate caramel tart, Mardi Gras King Cake, and of course, something cherry for George Washington.

There’ll also be baby tarts, cookies, meringues,  and other small sweets (some gluten-free), Hot Chocolate with real whipped cream, coffee & tea, and other non-alcoholic beverages. If you’d like to sip a dessert wine, or add a shot of whiskey to your hot beverage, please bring the spirits yourself).

I’m hosting a dinner party to benefit Forward Theater Company on Saturday, May 7th, as part of their Feast Forward fundraising event, and hope you’ll join me!
In the spirit of the movie theme, I’ll be serving a gourmet movie food spread including truffle oil popcorn, nachos, mini pizzas, and more!

Soup, beautiful soup

Dinner at DebS is back for 2016, with a warming Sunday Supper featuring soup, breads, and salads.

Join us on Sunday January 31st, at 6:30 pm. for the following menu:

Your choice of split pea with ham soup or vegan/vegetarian Italian wedding soup – greens, vegetable broth, and tofu nut balls. If you are not vegan, enjoy this soup with a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese.

To go with the soup, we’ll have a variety of breads: rosemary focaccia, yeasted corn bread, and perhaps a baguette or two will make an appearance. There’ll be butter, cheeses, and other toppings to spread on the bread.

A salad of spinach & other hardy winter greens and roasted cauliflower and parsley salad will round out the meal, and there’s sure to be a cookie or two for a sweet finish.

  • Roasted root vegetables on a pillow of whipped goat cheese, with herbs & micro greens
  • Individual chicken pot pie or vegetable pot pie – savory meat and vegetables  under a golden pastry dome
  • Green beans almondine (or other vegetable, if something looks good at the market!)
  • Chocolate mousse served with whipped cream and Langues de chat – thin crispy cookies

Dinner 2 – May 10 – Special Mother’s Day edition!

  • To begin: paté platter a la Cafe Flora – lentil-pecan paté, chicken liver paté, red onion confit, olives, pickles, breads
  • Your choice of broiled Salmon or Black Bean Cakes, served with cucumber dill sauce and lemon and lime wedges
  • Potato gnocchi with browned butter
  • Leafy salad – fresh greens, maybe asparagus, with a tangy, dried cranberry vinaigrette
  • Eton mess – strawberries & cream with crumbled meringues thrown in – we’ll be using the UK National Gallery’s recipe – rated in the top 3!

Dinner 3 – May 24, the night before Memorial Day

  • Chips & salsa
  • Carnitas – Locally raised pork, slow roasted with chiles
  • Chile-roasted carrots and new potatoes
  • Served with pickled onion and radish slaw
  • Frieda Kahlo’s “Mexican flag” rice – green, white, and red
  • Fresh, homemade, flour tortillas for wrapping it all up in
  • Blueberry pie with cinnamon ice cream

Join us for a Sunday afternoon dessert buffet

February 15th, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM

Chase away the winter blues with a cozy afternoon of desserts and warm beverages. All your special someones are welcome, including kids.

We’ll have key lime pie with a gingersnap crust, caramelized nut tart, hot chocolate with real whipped cream, cookies (maybe Dorie’s jammers, top left above, or ruggelach, or, or, or … the possibilities are endless!) hand-dipped chocolates and other confections, and all sorts of tempting treats, including gluten-free choices, and a few that are not so sweet  – cut small, so you can try a lot!

NEW – because it’s almost Mardi Gras/Fat Tuesday/paczki day – we’ll be sure to have King Cake!

We’ll serve everything buffet style, so stop in any time between 4:00 and 7:00.

If you’d like to have a glass of wine or spirits with your cake, please bring that yourself – non-alcoholic beverages will be provided.

Mad Men Cocktail Party

Celebrate National Food Day by raising a glass, Mad Men style! Food Day’s intent is to get people talking about food and food policy and eating real food – perfect cocktail party fare!

Friday October 24th, 6:00 – 9:00 PM

Join us for a giddy array of drinks and snacks, with your ’60s-style favorites updated, made with real, UN-processed ingredients

  • Assorted canapes – small savory bites of cheeses, vegetables, and smoked fish piled onto bread and melba toasts
  • Swedish meatballs – no explanation required!
  • Shrimp cocktail
  • Potato chips with caramelized onion dip (no soup mix here) and crudites
  • Baby cheesecakes, topped with cherries
  • Rocky Road Brownies

To benefit the Forward Theater Company, Dinner at DebS is hosting a dinner party on Saturday, October 11th as part of their Feast Forward fundraising event.

In the spirit of the Feed Me a Story theme inspired by Forward Theater’s popular bi-annual Monologue Festival Out of the Fire: The Banned Books Monologues, I’ll be hosting a 1960s themed dinner. My book selection is John Updike’s Rabbit, Run, from the American Library Association’s list of most challenged classics. You’re encouraged to dress the part in your best 1960s attire. You can take a peek at the menu here or just scroll down!

If you’d like to come, please rsvp by filling out this form (also under the Contact Us tab above). Forward Theater will send you a link to make a secure payment of the suggested donation of $50 – $150 per person. All the money raised will go towards the company’s outstanding artistic and outreach programming – I am donating the groceries and my time to prepare the meal.

Following the 6:00 pm dinner, we’ll head down to Overture Center, to join hundreds of others who have been enjoying dinners all over the city, for dessert, a silent auction, and a saucy Vaudeville show.

Appetizers:

Wedge salad with roasted tomato and bleu cheese dressings

Choice of beef or mushroom Wellington – beef tenderloin or mushroom pate wrapped in puff pastry and served with Madeira sauce

Mushy peas – frozen peas mashed with butter and fresh mint – not a traditional 1960s side dish, but consistent with the 1960s spirit, dressing up packaged foods like frozen vegetables

Parker house rolls – soft, pillowy, buttery – Pepperidge Farm was served in my house growing up, but these will be home made.
